What is safeBERM?
At current filling rates, various landfills have disposal capacity through a defined date. However, there is an opportunity to increase airspace/capacity by leveraging the existing landfill permit and constructing the safeBERM® at a cost less than traditional MSE berm methods.
The flexibility of design allows safeBERM® to be applied at many landfills despite their current restrictions. This innovative expansion method prevents landfill creep, does not impact the surrounding land owners and can make mitigating existing wetlands unnecessary. 99.7% of safeBERM® systems consist of recycled fill material of all types; from coal combustion residuals (CCR’s), contaminated soil, crushed concrete and glass. By using a sustainable method of full encapsulation that responsibly reuses material, this will keep the landfill stable and environmentally sound for hundreds of years.
